- I wish to know what hardware to buy so I can interface my pc running
- software I will write to a phone line so that I can set up my own
- custom multi-level menu system, recognize when dtmf tones are being
- sent by the person calling in and which tones those are, connect to
- my existing soundblaster soundcard so I can output audio to the phone
- and receive it from the phone line, give it a "hang up" command to
- hang up the phone line, and either the hardware should auto-answer
- a ringing phone or else signal my software that the phone is ringing
- so my software can issue it a command to go off hook.
-
- I strongly suggest that the various hardware interfaces that are
- included with various "voice mail" systems already do this. For example,
- Reveal makes something called the Tele (something or other, maybe "blaster")
- that has two connections for audio in/out to a soundcard, a jack to plug
- in the phone line from telco, and a serial rs232 connector which appears
- to accept commands and issue info to/from the pc.
-
- It is only about $50 and I wonder if anyone could tell me what the
- serial line commands are that it accepts and what it outputs for various
- conditions back out the serial line to the computer (probably codes when
- dtmf tones are present, codes to indicate it has answered a ringing line,
- etc.).
